Gouverneur Chamber's Student of the Month

Each month, the Gouverneur Chamber recognizes a student who is studying an aspect of business at St. Lawrence/Lewis BOCES, (Board Of Cooperative Educational Services) located in nearby Fowler, NY. The school serves eighteen school districts in St. Lawrence and Lewis Counties, NY.

The BOCES system provides cost-effective shared services, including career training for high-school students and adults, special education, alternative schools, technology education and teacher training, as well as dozens of programs to expand educational opportunity.

The Student of the Month award is sponsored by the Gouverneur Chamber of Commerce. The award is presented to those students whose efforts are of the highest caliber.

Aiden Hollinger

Digital Media Design

Aiden Hollinger, son of Alicia Tiernan and Jesse Hollinger has been selected as the Career and Technical Education Student of the Month at Southwest Tech (SLL BOCES) for December 2024.

Aiden is a senior at Hermon-DeKalb Central School and is enrolled in the Digital Media Design II Program at Southwest Career & Technical Education Center.

Aiden is an exceptional student and is a role model for his fellow classmates. He is a talented, hard worker with a positive attitude. He is always eager to learn and help others when they need it. Aiden has recently been accepted to Suny Canton.

Emily Infield

Criminal Justice

Emily Infield, daughter of Jennifer & William Infield, has been selected as the Career and Technical Education Student of the Month at Southwest Tech (BOCES) for May 2024.

Emily is senior at Gouverneur Central School and is enrolled in the Criminal Justice I Program at Southwest Tech.

Emily is an outstanding student with a positive attitude. She has not missed a day of school this entire year. Emily is always eager to assist others and completes all assignments to a standard beyond what is expected.

Matthew Daniels

Criminal Justice

Matthew Daniels, son of Cory & Joni Daniels has been selected as the Career and Technical Education Student of the Month at Southwest Tech (SLL BOCES) for November 2024.

Matthew is a senior at Clifton-Fine Central School enrolled in the Criminal Justice II Program at Southwest Career & Technical Education Center.

Matthew is an exceptional student and a role model for his classmates. He is always on task, eager to learn, responsible, hardworking, and has excellent attendance. He exhibits a strong interest in the criminal justice field. Matthew plans to pursue a career in law enforcement, specifically as a member of the New York State Police.

Olivia Klimowicz

Cosmetology

Olivia Klimowicz, daughter of Donna & Robert Klimowicz, has been selected as the Career and Technical Education Student of the Month at Southwest Tech (BOCES) for May 2024.

Olivia is a senior at Gouverneur Central School and enrolled in the Cosmetology Il Program at Southwest Tech.

Olivia comes to class each day prepared and eager to learn. She never turns down a challenge; rather, she embraces them and succeeds. She maintains an outstanding grade point average, has excellent attendance, and demonstrates exceptional work ethic. Olivia conducts herself in a very professional manner and treats staff, fellow students, and clients with a great deal of dignity and respect. She demonstrates excellent communication and public speaking skills.

Each day, Olivia goes above and beyond what is expected of her to help or practice her skills without being asked. She is always the first to volunteer to do any service, and she willingly volunteered to represent the cosmetology program by guiding tours and helping educate 8th and 10th grade visitors in our program. She is well-rounded in her interests and activities, both in and out of school. She has the ability to gracefully balance school work, family, social activities, and community service events; she also plays a big role in volunteer work at her church. Olivia has a very bright future ahead of her and is truly a pleasure to have in class.

Upon completion of the Cosmetology Program, Olivia will be prepared and eligible to sit for the New York State Board licensing exam and plans to pursue a career in the beauty industry.

Lawrence Brown

Building Trades

Lawrence Brown, son of Larry & Jessica Brown has been selected as the Career and Technical Education Student of the Month at Southwest Tech (SLL BOCES) for October 2024.

Lawrence is a senior at Hermon-DeKalb Central School and is enrolled in the Building Trades II Program at Southwest Career & Technical Education Center.

Lawrence is always prepared and ready to work. He is eager to learn and exhibits professionalism and competence in both the classroom and hands-on activities. Lawrence completes all his work in a timely fashion. He is a leader and positive role model for other students in the program. Lawrence works well individually and within any group, taking on the role as a leader. Lawrence is dependable, responsible, he shows respect to himself and others, and has the ability to give good feedback and ask appropriate questions. Lawrence exhibits a positive attitude and is always willing to help others. After high school, Lawrence plans on working in the trades where he will utilize the skills and knowledge gained through the Building Trades program to be successful.

Joshua Bailey

Electrical Technologies

Joshua Bailey, son of Karen and Kevin Bailey has been selected as the Career and Technical Education Student of the Month at Southwest Tech (BOCES) for April 2024.

Joshua is a senior at Edwards-Knox Central School and is enrolled in the Electrical Technologies II Program at Southwest Tech.

Josh is an excellent student and a pleasure to have in class. He is putting 100% effort into this class and his projects. Josh wants to learn and excel in this field. He asks questions when he is not certain about a process and is not offended when he has to make changes.
