Gouverneur "The One and Only"

Gouverneur is the only town of this name in the entire United States. The Greater Gouverneur Area Chamber of Commerce is a community organization whose members work to promote economic vitality and prosperity in the Gouverneur area. Our community offers a business-friendly environment, an excellent hospital, and a small-town atmosphere.

Gouverneur is home to large companies like Cives and Kinney Drugs, but included in our membership, are many other wonderful large and small businesses. The Chamber sponsors and supports the Community Garage Sales, the Pumpkin Festival, and provides scholarship awards to the local BOCES through the Student of the Month.

The Gouverneur and St Lawrence County Fair draws hundreds from all over the North Country, as does our Flag Day parade and other events. In 2025, the Chamber introduced a new wintertime holiday event, the Festival of Christmas Trees. Our village park is the setting for the Gouverneur Chamber's Christmas parade and the Flag Day Parade, which always draws a great crowd.

The Village Park gazebo was constructed in 2024 and named for Kinney Drugs for its more than 100 years of service within the Gouverneur community. It is a beautiful space for community events. The park already hosts events like the Farmer's Market, the Annual Gouverneur Garden Club Plant Sale and the Gouverneur Breast & Ovarian Cancer WalkThe park is bordered by churches, the Gouverneur Library, the Gouverneur Museum, and Main Street shops. The giant "LifeSavers®" in the Village Park is always a conversation starter. The story behind its arrival in the Village Park is an interesting one.

Visit the
Gouverneur Museum

From your phone, tablet, computer, or in person.

The museum's collection was built from local donations and every object speaks to us from the past and links us to the real people who once owned it. Thanks to the generosity of area residents, the Museum houses thousands of items, many are quite unique.

If you can't visit in person, consider visiting the website and taking the tour. The tour is online and can walk a visitor through the Manse's rooms and exhibits of local artifacts and exhibits.

There's a historic building at 60 Church Street in the Village that houses resources and learning experiences for everyone. And there are people there who can answer questions and provide support. (Librarians)

The Gouverneur Library is more than just books and programs for all ages, there is access to public computers, printing, faxing, WiFi, and meeting areas. You will be surprised at what you can check out. Plan a visit to the Village soon. Visit the library, have lunch, maybe plan a trip to the Gouverneur Museum, or browse our newest stores.  See what you might be missing.

Our Library

The Student of the Month award is sponsored by the Gouverneur Chamber of Commerce. The award is presented to those students whose efforts are of the highest caliber.

Each month, the Gouverneur Chamber recognizes a student who is studying an aspect of business at St. Lawrence/Lewis BOCES, (Board Of Cooperative Educational Services) located in nearby Fowler, NY. The school serves eighteen school districts in St. Lawrence and Lewis Counties, NY.

Welcome New Chamber Members

Since 2018, the Gouverneur Chamber has welcomed every new member with a special gift, a mug featuring the Chamber's seal and filled with a bouquet from Emily's Flower Shop — 17 Dodge Place, Gouverneur.

Downtown Improvement through NY Forward

NY Forward was launched in 2022 and serves as a central component of the State's economic development efforts.

Working together with the Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI), to accelerate and expand the revitalization of New York's downtowns. The Village of Gouverneur will receive $4.5 million in funding as one of the North Country’s recipients of NY Forward funding!

NY Forward supports smaller communities with historic character that distinguishes them from the larger, more urban central business districts typically funded through DRI. NY Forward communities are walkable, less dense areas that serve the immediate local community, and are more local in nature - focusing on the immediately surrounding residential or rural agricultural centric development.   Learn more at gouverneurnyforward.com
